Catherine is a sustainability specialist, with over 15 years’ career experience, in the publishing, built environment, innovation and tourism sectors, within senior level editorial, R&D, policy and global project and certification roles. Key interests include climate change, sustainable tourism, cities and innovation. Catherine has a BSc in the environmental sciences (Reading University; UK) and an MSc in EU Environmental Policy and Regulation, which included sustainable tourism (Lancaster University; UK). Catherine is a qualified social researcher with an EU funded (DG VI) PhD from Kings College London (KCL) around media theory and environmental policy. Catherine has significant career experience working across the corporate, government, not-for-profit and trade association sectors, having worked at Thomson-Reuters, Haymarket Media Group, the UK Department of Business Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), Climate-KIC (innovation) and now at ABTA (the UK travel association). At ABTA, Catherine oversees the global sustainability certification services for Travelife across 40 countries, including pre- and post- audit support, auditor training and leading R&D projects to expand global certification product uptake, and therefore, contribute to developing and expanding sustainable tourism opportunities.
